UGC NET Eligibility 2022

Even before 2020 ends, UGC NET 2022 has rolled out with all latest details about the examination pattern, eligibility, criteria, application fee, exam period and online application forms deadline. Maybe NTA defines to maintain the same tough competition amongst aspirants to check out the lucky coin every time. 

The UGC NET examination of 2022 will conduct twice like of the year 2020 in June and December months. The official notification of the UGC NET examination of 2022 is estimating to come out in February 2022. The availability of the online application from the third week of April. 

Before you check in the application form of 2022, make sure whether you are eligible to apply for the examination or not. Ineligiblecandidate’s applications will get rejected by NTA. So, we prefer you to take charge of the eligibility criteria by looking into each point and criteria carefully before you directly buzz on the examination.

Eligibility Criteria for UGC NET Exam :

  • Degree Qualification:

What degree should aspirant hold to get eligibility for the UGC NET examination 2022?

Candidates who hold a degree in the government recognised Universities or Colleges of UGC either in Post – Graduation or Masters are eligible to apply for the examination. The qualification of the degree rule applies for any category like General / SC / ST / UR / General – EWS.  

  • Subject Qualification: 

The candidates who hold a degree in either Post – Graduation (PG) or Masters in Science Streams, Home Science, Electronic Science, Humanities, Computer Science and Applications, Social Science including the regional and international languages, etc. are eligible for the examination.

  • Qualification Marks in Degree:

  1. Not every degree certificate holder is eligible for applying for the UGC NET examination. As of the NTA and UGC examination norms, aspirants who secured 55% of marks in Degree’s like Post – Graduation and Masters are qualified to give the NET examination. Whereas, the reserved categories like SC / ST/ OBC (NCL) / PWD / Transgender aspirants have an exemption in the qualification of marks in Degrees with 50%. That is, the candidate who comes under the above-described category need not secure 55% of the score in the degrees as of the general group.  

  1. If the candidates are in the final year of the Graduation / Masters who completed the final year examination but the results are yet to declare are also eligible to apply for the exam. And the candidates who are in the last year of the Graduation are also eligible for the exam. But the candidates are only eligible for the JRF post, as for the Assistant professor post is compulsory to hold a degree of completion in either Graduation or Masters. 

  • PhD Aspirants: 

Candidates who completed the PhDs and also hold a degree in Masters as of by September 1992 are eligible to apply for the examination. The candidates who come under the prescribed category are also eligible for the UGC NET 2022 examination with a relaxation of 5% of Marks in Degree Qualification. That is, these specific candidates need not score 55% of marks in the Degrees they are even eligible with 50% of the marks in Degrees.

  • Everyone who is about to apply for the UGC NET examination 2022 needs to be strict to these qualification rules to write for the examination.

  • Candidates who get the qualification in the examination need to finish the Post – Graduation within two years of the announcement of the results else the candidates will eventually have gets disqualified. 

  • Candidates who have completed the post-graduate degree/diploma/certificate from a foreign university/ institute or Indian University/ institute then the candidate should ascertain the equivalence of the diploma/degree/certificate with a degree from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) of New Delhi.

Assistant professor:Age Criteria and Age Relaxation of UGC NET Examination 

  • There is no age limit for Assistant Professor post. So, candidates of any age group are eligible to apply for the Assistant Professor post in UGC NET Examination.
  • If the candidate completed the NET/SET/SLET examination, then imagine that the candidate is already getting a green signal from NTA for the post of Assistant Professor in the recognised Government and UGC Universities and colleges.
  • If the candidates completed PhD under the University Grant Commission Universities and Institutes, are wished to apply for the Assistant Professor Post in the Government Universities or Institutes for the NET/SET/SLET examination then the candidates will be offered with five years’ age exemption.
  • If the candidates cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) held by University Grand Commission for the requirement of Assistant Professor post which was held ahead of 1st December 2002 are exempted from NET examination. And the candidates who appeared for the SET examination and got qualified in the examination which was held after 1st December 2002 are applicable to apply for the Assistant Professor Post. But the candidates need to apply for the post in respective City/ State they appeared for the SET examination. 
  • The candidates who got qualified in the UGC/ CSIR/ JRF examination which is held before 1989 are exempted to appear for the UGC NET Examination.

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): 

  • There is a strict age limit for JRF aspirants which should not exceed 3o years of age limit as of 1st December 2022.
  • Candidates who belongs to SC / ST/ OBC (NCL) / PWD / Transgender / Women have an age relaxation of 5 years. 
  • LLM candidates have an age relaxation of 3 years whereas the Armed forces have an age relaxation of 5 years.
